A new NVQ is being developed in Norfolk

People working in social care or hoping to develop their career in this area might soon be able to take new NVQ qualifications in pedagogy.

The courses are still in the process of being developed by Norfolk charity Break, but could be piloted in the area in April next year.

If the NVQ level three qualification proves to be successful, it could be rolled out across the UK once the first six-month course has been finished.

Claire Cameron, a senior research officer at the Thomas Coram Research Unit, highlighted the importance of the subject.

She told Community Care: "Our comparative research in Germany and Denmark has shown that social pedagogy approaches vastly improve outcomes for children in care, when compared with the UK."

Ms Cameron said developing the course was a "move in the right direction" for the country.

Individuals can benefit in a number of ways from obtaining NVQ qualifications, for example they can help to increase confidence and improve promotion prospects.

Laura Parsons, a learning support assistant at Yatton Infant School, recently described her NVQ course as "rewarding".

She told the Mercury that obtaining her qualification improved her ability to approach situations and gave her more knowledge of her chosen profession.

Foster carers Max and Patsy Harden also had a positive experience gaining NVQ qualifications.

Patsy said completing a level three course in children and young people was "enlightening" and said it gave her and her husband a greater understanding of the theory behind what they do.
